SUMMARY:Deer Dance at Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo
DESCRIPTION:This powerful and beautiful sacred ceremony and dance, always occurring at Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo (Formerly San Jan Pueblo) in mid-February, honors the relationship between the Pueblo, nature and the Jicarilla Apache.  Ceremonies begin at Sunrise but often the dancers do not enter the public dance ground until mid-morning.  Some Deer Dancers wear antlers portraying deer, others represent hunters and amongst them are singers and drummers.  For Hours and information about best to honor the community’s religious and cultural practices while at their home, check https://ohkay.org/home/#’\nor https://www.newmexico.org/native-culture/native-communities/before-you-go/\n
