Jicarilla Apache Nation
Throughout their history, the Jicarilla Apache were travelers and traders, producing work-a-day micaceous pottery for the tribes with whom they traded as well as highly decorative but lightweight basketry vessels, leather traveling containers known as parfleche, and elaborately beaded attire and jewelry, for their own use and for trading. Today, the Jicarilla Arts and Crafts Department encourages and supports the traditional arts including beaded leatherwork, basketry and jewelry making.Artists often work at the Jicarilla Art and Crafts Shop and Museum in the village of Dulce where their work is sold.
