Kewa Pueblo (Formerly Santa Domingo Pueblo)

The pottery of the Kewa Pueblo (formerly Santa Domingo) is strictly traditional, reproducing with great care the ancient forms and decorations and reflecting the inherently conservative culture of the Kewa People.  Similarly, Kewa jewelry, which sometimes has a distinctly contemporary feel, is created with designs that can be directly linked to works by the ancient Puebloans nearly a thousand years ago. A large contingent of Kewa jewelers travel all over the country displaying and selling the silver and turquoise necklaces, rings and bracelets which (in addition to fine heishi of turquoise and other stones and silver) have made them famous.  They are perhaps best known for their intricate mosaic and shellwork, and Kewa jewelry is among the most sought after Native artistry.
