Indigenous Peoples Weekend Celebrations, Santa Fe

Santa Fe celebrates Indigenous Peoples Day with a weekend of events to remember, honor and uphold the State’s valued Native American neighbors from the 23 Tribes, Nations and Pueblos in New Mexico and around the Nation.  Saturday and Sunday, Oct 10 & 11, feature Dances on the Santa Fe Plaza.

On Monday, October 12th, The Santa Fe Indigenous Center hosts the 4th Annual Honoring Native Nations Powwow on the Santa Fe Plaza. This special event will hold space for tribal members from all Native Nations across Turtle Island to come together and celebrate Indigenous joy and cultural resilience on the Santa Fe Plaza beginning at 9AM through 4:30PM.

The day will begin with an Opening Prayer, land acknowledgement, and Pueblo dances. Following that, there will be a Grand Entry as well as a Parade of Nations – bring your tribal flag to carry in the parade!

Around the powwow arena, enjoy shopping from over 25+ talented Indigenous Artists, and grab a bite to eat from one of the featured food vendors while you enjoy the day.

Dedicated seating will be provided for elderly and individuals with disabilities. Meter parking is free on Indigenous Peoples’ Day, public restrooms will be available on Water Street, and porta potties available on Sheridan Ave.

Non-Native members of the community are welcome and encouraged to respectfully enjoy the Intertribal festivities. Please watch the following “Powwow Etiquette” video to learn what to expect: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8H__LY77Kow&t=4s.
